When you think of the Moselle, your mind turns to German wines, a hilly landscape and the towns of Trier and Koblenz. And those are the major ingredients of this quite easy cycling tour through a wine, forest and river landscape.
Because you are riding from west to east and descending in altitude, you will usually get a helping hand from the wind. One boat trip is included, and you are also offered one Mosellands dinner.

The day of arrival presents you with a picture full of character of the old Roman town of Trier, whose town gate, the Porta Nigra, forms the best-known reminder of a rich past. Art and culture, sidewalk cafes and shopping streets, you find it all here in abundance. The actual cycling trip goes mainly along the banks of the Moselle. You follow the river downstream to Piesport with its numerous vineyards, historic winepress and archeological finds. On the next day, if the water level is suitable, you will do part of the route by ship and view the wine mountains from the Moselle for a change. You spend the night in Zell, best-known for its delicious “Schwarzer Katz”, a fresh wine named after the local mountain. From Zell a lovely route takes you past several viewpoints and the tourist town of Cochem. There you will find a wide choice of opportunities for lunch. At the end of the day you go past the Treis church and the Karden monastery, interesting attractions. On the last cycling day you go through Alken, well-known for the ruins of the Thurant fortress. This 800-year-old building can be visited every day. In Koblenz the Rhine swallows up the Moselle; this is where your cycling trip through a country full of romanticism and history ends. The monument at the German Ecke symbolizes the German unity. There are many occasions for you to cross the Moselle if you want to visit something “on the other side” that the route description does not include. Using your German travel guide “Moselland-Radwanderführer” you can find even the smallest roads to shorten or extend your route. The way back to Trier from Koblenz usually takes no longer than 1.5 hours by train. You can simply leave your rental bicycle behind in your hotel in Koblenz.
