Discovering the Netherlands by Bike & Boat

Planning on visiting the Netherlands. Then why not see it as the Dutch do: from the water and from the saddle of a bicycle. Cycletours Holland has combined these two unique aspects of Dutch daily life to create a unique experience: the Bike & Boat Holidays!

How does it work
On a Bike & Boat Holiday, you'll discover the Netherlands by taking part in carefully organized bicycle tours through a certain region. You'll ride along all the major sights Holland has to offer, but you'll also encounter charming little villages virtually unknown to outsiders, where many traditions are still part of everyday life. Tulip fields, windmills, wooden shoes... no typical aspect of the Netherlands will remain unseen. In addition to this, you'll spend the nights on a comfortable sailing ship: literally a floating hotel. This hotel ship takes you to the various starting points of your bicycle tours. In fact, it's a means of transport, an accommodation and luggage transportation all in one! That's what our Bike & Boat Holidays are about: having a comfortable and pleasant stay in the Netherlands, in a uniquely Dutch way.

A typical day
Breakfast is at 8 o'clock. The daily distance is about 40 - 70 kilometers/ 25 - 44 miles (1 kilometer is 0.62 miles). The route booklet describes the daily routes and embarkation points. There are stops for exploring the many historic sights en route and for taking some well earned coffee and lunch breaks.
Back on board tea and coffee are served. You can also use the minibar. After dinner you can go into town and end up in a nice Dutch 'dark brown' café. The ship never sails during the night, so the risk of getting seasick when trying to sleep is reduced to a minimum. In the end, it's all about having a comfortable and pleasant stay in the Netherlands.

Departure and arrival
For the Bike & Boat routes, boarding begins on Saturday at 16.00, followed by a warm-up bicycle tour. Departure for the first leg of the trip is on Sunday morning at 09.00. The trip ends a week later on Saturday morning at 10.00.

The participants
Cycletours Holland welcomes guests from every corner of the world. On board you will find an exciting international group of people of all ages and of varied composition: people travelling alone, friends, couples and (especially during the high season) families with children. Many of our guests are American or Canadian, but we also have frequent visitors from all over Europe and the rest of the world.
